We are home! Bear had some intestinal blockage which he is prone to since having intestinal surgery.  In kids like Bear with previous history, in can become so severe that they go in for surgery, luckily we caught Bear's early enough without having to go that route.  His liver bloodwork is still slightly elevated and this could be due to the infection, so we will have to keep a close eye on it.  His lipase count is in normal range. The sonogram on his gallbladder came back fine, they did find air in his biliary duct and this is from his previous surgeries and should not pose a problem, but will also keep an eye on it.

The filled his tank (through IV) with sodium, potassium, and glucose.  The glucose kicked in about 10pm last night and he was bouncing off the walls.  They unhooked him from his pole and let us roam the halls and let him stretch his legs.  He walked the halls like he owned the place!  He chatted it up with the nurses, they were laughing, he was laughing...high fiving the staff.  They asked him how old he was, he said 25, told someone else he was 4...goof ball.  He definitely has his personality back.

So it looks like we caught this bout on the front end and will recover well.  We follow up with Dr Barth in 2 weeks.  Thanks for being my support system and praying so hard for us.  We couldn't get through these crisis without you!  You have fed us, clothes us, kept us company, sent magazines/movies/toys/books, prayed and loved on us.  We love you so much and thankful we have you in our lives.
Oceans of love, Jill

We had a good night.  Bear slept hard, he was snoring.  They brought us in a regular bed so I could sleep with him.  he is pretty fearful of this place.  The drs and nurses agreed to do an treatments/iv sticks/blood draws/etc in a treatment room down the hall.  i like to keep the room a safe place so he doesn't have to feel scared in his room.  so far it is working pretty well.  they gave him a bolus of IV fluids and then put him on continuous IV since then.  I think the bump in fluids will make him feel so much better.  We had an ultrasound yesterday and bloodwork.  The blood work showed slight elevation in his liver counts.  It is about 5 am and we are scheduled to go down for xrays at 6am.  I have slept an hour here and there, you know how it is in the hospital-it's a revolving door of staff.  Many of the staff remembered him from his previous stays and excitedly said "It's BEAR!" as we were admitted to the floor.  We are on the new floor once again (so nice and clean).  Bear has been in pretty good spirits, very fearful, but seems to feel safe in our room.  He has been playing with his cars and reading his books.  Woody and Mickey keep him company and we have watched Toy Story 1 multiple times.  They brought him a tray of all kinds of foods last night and he said "Oh BOY!!" as they placed it in front of him.  He wasn't too interested in anything on it really, but he did decide to eat the chocolate chip cookie.  He also drank some juice yetsterday, we got about 14 oz total down him.

Bear is 2!

click to enlarge Bear is TWO today! We woke him up singing Happy Birthday with presents and donuts.  He was excited with all of the festivities going on in his room at 6:30am.  We gave him a stuffed Mickey that talks, a potty training book, and a tractor book with wheels on it.

Updates! Who has time to write an update?!

We have been on the go this summer!  Bear is into everything and is such a happy kid.  We have been swimming a few times a week, playing with friends, and enjoying being out and about.  Bear turns 2 on Monday!  We are having a Sesam Street themed swim party and he gets to eat cake this year!  Last year he had his feeding tube and I made the playdoh cake.  What a difference a year makes!  We have comprehensive labwork done in the next few weeks and he goes in for his well baby 2 yr old appt with the pediatrician.  I am a little apprehensive, but for no reason...just don't want to be surprised I guess.  I feel certain we will have great lab results...but old habits/memories easily resurface.  We will go to Cook Children's for his labwork.  We may stop by to visit some of our favortie nurses.  We keep in touch with many of them so they have seen Bear since his stay.

Bear is a ring "bear"er in Sarah Spurlock's wedding.  Let's hope he cooperates!  It is in October.  We will get to meet many people who wrote on our site at that wedding.  Sarah's friends and family were huge supporters and sent us many things of encouragement and visited often.

Bear loves Toy Story and Woody is his favorite.  He takes Woody everywhere and also sleeps with him.  He loves to watch baseball every night with Daddy.  And he talks about baseball all day long.

He loves tapioca, PBJ sandwiches, yogurt, and milk (especially chocolate).  We have been exploring all kinds of new things and learning along the way.

I asked Bear where he was going as he ran out of the room. He hollars back, "Amarilla by mornin'!"...what a turkey...guess he likes country music :)
